Skin Prick tests

skin prick tests

A skin prick test is a simple procedure that can be done in the consultation room. On average it takes about 30 minutes and in that time you would be tested for a list of possible allergens, such a pollen, mold, pet dander, and dust mites among others. These are all inhaled allergens that can cause asthma and upper airway allergies, such as hay-fever. The test will be carried out and interpreted by the respiratory specialist attending St Andrews Clinics. It is a painless procedure and the site used is usually the forearm in adults and the back in children.

For urticaria and food allergies, blood tests are better indicated. These are also available at St Andrews Clinics and can be requested during a consultation with one of our general practitioners.
